Our Statement of Vision
We envision ourselves to be one of
the most mission-oriented, dynamic,
innovative and
fast-growing synods
in the
Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America.
We are Disciples passionate about the Gospel and dedicated to Claiming the Great Mission Commission.
Our best energies and resources are focused on mission ministry that makes disciples of Jesus and transforms lives through the life-giving power of the Gospel. We will pursue this vision through training and education, growth and transformation, and peace and justice in our congregations, communities and world.
|
OUR CORE VALUES
|
We are shaped by certain convictions that inform our understanding of ourselves and our
future
We are committed to the task of building on strengths, feeding what is life-giving, empowering ministries, and reallocating our human and financial resources to more effectively carry out our mission.
Mission:
We believe our first and greatest calling is to fulfill the Great Commission to go, teach, baptize, and make disciples of all peoples. This mission grows out of our experience of the love of God in Christ and out of the Great Commandment to share that love with others. We believe that mission is defined at the intersection of identity, purpose, and
context
Discipleship: We are dedicated to helping all people mature in their faith and commitment to Jesus and his work in the world. We believe in and encourage the practice of the Marks of Discipleship.
Heritage: We share a commitment to the Confession*s teaching on justification by grace, law and gospel, the priesthood of all believers, and the proclamation of the Kingdom of God. We trust the power of Word and Sacraments to nurture and transform people for life and ministry.
Outreach: We desire to risk and venture with boldness for the sake of those who have not experienced the Gospel, to provide safe environments where change and transformation can be explored, to promote cultural diversity, and to be alive with a spirit of miraculous expectation.
Ministry: We value the gifts for ministry in both laity and clergy and see Jesus in our brothers and sisters. We uphold the partnership of the congregations, the synods, and the national expression of the church. We seek collectively to be a synod that cooperates in training and growing disciples, facilitating common missional endeavors, and celebrating the work of God in the world. We rely on the promised Holy Spirit to empower our work, enrich us with diverse gifts, and gather us into the Body of Christ.
Excellence: We seek innovation, integrity, and excellence in our worship forms, outreach,
discipline, and maturing of Disciples of Jesus. We embrace diversity, creativity, relevance, flexibility, and change out of a desire to more effectively accomplish our mission. We will operate with honesty, openness, fairness, and justice in all we say and do.

Weekly Devotion for Clergy and Lay Leaders by Bishop Kevin S.

Grace and peace be unto you from
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
+ + +
When
they found him, they said to him, "Everyone is searching
for you." He answered, "Let us go on to the
neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there
also; for that is what I came out to do."
And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their
synagogues and casting out demons
Oh how Jesus loved the people and
Oh how they loved him too!
He taught them in the synagogue
where his authoritative teaching was followed up by healing.
He hit the road and people kept coming to him
for his teaching and healing and he met their need.
He even healed Peter's mother-in-law. (Did you get that?
Peter was married when he dropped everything and followed
Jesus!)
He got away from them for a few hours and
they came after him for more.
Peter, Andrew, James and John said to him: "Oh, they
won't let us alone! We need to rest! Everyone is
pressing in upon you!"
And he answered that it was time to move on... to share the
teaching... to share the healing... to share the love.
That's DiscipleLife!
From They Like Jesus
but Not the Church
by Dan Kimball, adapted by me:
Being missional means that Jesus-people see themselves as being
missionaries, not as a church having missionaries.
Being missional means that we see ourselves sent into
our communities, our work, our families by Jesus, and that
everything we do aligns itself with the Missio Dei...
the mission of God.
Being missional means we see the church not as a place to go on
Sunday, but as something we are throughout
the week.
Being missional means that we don't "bring Jesus" to
people; but that we realize Jesus acts within us, within our
culture,
and we join him in what he is doing.
Being missional means we are very much in the
world and engaged in culture with the love of
Jesus.
Being missional means we serve in our
communities
and build relationships of love with
people
rather than see them as targets of our evangelism.
Being missional means being dependent on Jesus
and the Spirit through prayer, through scripture,
and through each other in community.
Being missional means we are not entities of faith unto
ourselves, but that we remember "God
so loved the world..."
Being missional means we live in community with
Jesus.

We pray:
Everlasting God, you give strength to the weak and power to
the faint. Make us agents of your healing and wholeness,
that your good news may be made known to the ends of your creation,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Daily
and Sunday DiscipleLife Prayer for February.
Every
Sunday, in our corporate worship and in our daily
prayers, we ask you to pray for Christ's mission
coming into the world
and across our Mission Area:
Lord
Jesus, as the 110 congregations across northern
Texas and Louisiana prayerfully consider their response
to the work of the wider church and the NT-NL mission
through their DiscipleLife Alive! commitments and gifts,
bless our vision, inspire our response,
help us fulfill our mission. Amen.
Grace and Peace in Christ,
