YOUTH GROUP

O W L S

Older Wiser Lutheran Seniors

We call ourselves OWLS, but we have several denominations that join us each 2nd Friday of the month for fun, food and fellowship. We start to wander in about 10:30 am and by noon when the food is ready there are a number of working folks who join us for lunch. I don't know any other place where you can get a hot meal for $2.00. We don't charge for the laughter or fun. It would be nice if a few more people called to let us know the night before if they plan to show; that way we could plan the menu accordingly. God seems to take care that everyone gets a serving and usually there is enough for a few seconds.

The OWLS group was begun by Jean Billing and Marie Albert, but I can't remember exactly when; I'm guessing ten years or more. We haven't changed our prices or games and we still have fun every month. Many of our original members have joined our Lord's fun and games and we talk to some of them when we're trying to cheat (yes, some of us are crazy also). We have averaged about 20 in attendance (sometimes a few more or a few less) almost since we began.

Our Thanksgiving meal was fit for a king or queen last year. Some came to eat because word leaked out that Lois Grandy was making turkey and dressing. The desserts are always a surprise as the women take turns bringing something different each month. In December we had enough monies in the reserve to have a pizza, salads and brownies with ice cream. This was easy on the chefs, Lois and Jean.

We invite anyone to join us; you don't have to be a senior to come; we have a few 'younguns' that fit right in the group. We have lots of seniors that haven't stopped by for a while, but the invisible welcome mat is always out front. The men need some new subject matter to discuss; they have more fun than we women.

God's Blessing to all!
Jean Billing
