| On September 5, 1972 TLC's Day School opened, licensed to accommodate
30 children ages three through five. Today the Day School is licensed for 84
children from infants to 14 years. Activities are age appropriate and include learning activities, (social and emotional), chapel time with Vicar Jeremiah on Tuesday mornings, prayers before each meal, a comprehensive summer program for older children which includes: swimming, bowling, visiting local attractions, going to appropriate "G" rated movies when available. There are different activities each day - very much like a summer camp but on a daily basis. During Spring Break the Day School has a smaller version for all the children with age appropriate activities. |

Old
wives tales
It's not just Valentines Day we celebrate in February.
on February 2 we have Groundhog Day; I wonder if he will see his shadow
and do we really believe that predicts the length of winter.
Old Wives Tales that have existed throughout our life
are somehow comforting as we get older.
I am exceedingly proud that I did not break my
mother's back with, "Step on a crack and break your mother's
back" as I know for sure I have stepped on many cracks as I grew up.
As a child Mother was always telling me, "Don't
run through the house or you will put your eye out!" I think she was
really more concerned about the antique vase that set precariously on a
table in the hall.
And this one, "Eat you carrots so we'll have good
eyesight". This one is actually true; carrots actually do help with
eyesight. And, whether you liked them or not you are expected to eat them.
Ah, summer and watermelons. And the wives tale says,
"Don't swallow the seeds or a watermelon will grow in your
tummy." That thought was enough keep me awake at night wondering
whether I swallowed one or not.
And, of course, making silly faces was always fun to
do; especially when there was a bunch of friends around. Mother
would see us crossing our eyes and say, "Don't cross your eyes or
they will get stuck that way." We, of course, believed her and didn't
do that anymore.
Now sitting too close to the TV would, of course, make
you go blind and all mothers knew that so they passed this
information on to their children.
These Old Wives Tales have been around for a long time.
Wonder how they began? Did a group of mothers in the old days, while
having their favorite tea, just decide their children needed some extra
incentive to be well mannered? Who knows; but they seemed to have
worked... at least for a while. |

Party
Yes, it is Valentine Party time!
The teachers have the construction hearts cut out, the doilies ready,
the Valentine candy hearts with the sayings, the white sacks, and the
glue on hand.
It's that special time when all the
cartoon characters and the cute little cuddly animal Valentine cards are
put on display.
The soft sugar cookies with the pink,
white, and red sprinkles are in the bakery and the kids are ready for
the sugar high. |
